What is Paleo?

According to Dr. Loren Cordain, the creator of Paleo, “The Paleo Diet is based upon everyday, modern foods that mimic the food groups of our pre-agricultural, hunter-gatherer ancestors.”.

There are seven characteristics to Paleo:

  • Higher Protein Intake
  • Lower Carbohydrate Intake & Lower Glycemic Index
  • Higher Fiber Intake
  • Moderate to Higher Fat Intake Dominated by Monosaturated & Polyunsaturated Fats with Balanced Omenga-3 and Omega-6 fats
  • Higher Potassium & Lower Sodium Intake
  • Net DietaryΒ Alkaline Load that Balances Dietary Acid
  • Higher Intake of Vitamins, Minerals, Antioxidants, and Plant Phytochemicals

Here are the basics of what to eat and what not to eat on Paleo:

Do Eat:

  • Grass-Produced Meats
  • Fish/Seafood
  • Fresh Fruits & Veggies
  • Eggs
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Healful Oils [olive, walnut, flaxseed, macadamia, avocado, coconut]

Stay Away From:

  • Cereal Grains
  • Legumes [including peanuts]
  • Dairy
  • Refined Sugar
  • Potatoes
  • Processed Foods
  • Salt
  • Refined Vegetable Oils
